Background:
Abbas and Templecombe Church of England Primary School is set in the heart of the Blackmore Vale in South Somerset. The school was founded in 1870, moved to its present site in 1896 and was extended to its present size in 1988. The school building consists of five large classrooms each having a quiet activity area and an art area, a well-equipped kitchen, a well-stocked library and a computer suite. There are facilities for the disabled. The school also has an attractive staff room and office facilities. In the attractive rural grounds the school has two hard play areas, a wonderful garden and environmental area, an outdoor swimming pool and a large sports field. The school provides a varied range of after-school activities. In sports these include football, cricket, rugby, gymnastics, table tennis, athletics, basketball, cycling proficiency and many more. Musical activities include recorder club, choir, brass, guitar, cello and hand-bell ringing. Apart from these there are other special interest activities including art, computers, board games, cookery and environmental club. Children also have the opportunity to take part in drama productions throughout the school year. The school aims to provide a safe, happy, caring and well-ordered environment in which learning can take place and where each child is valued as an individual. Recognising its Christian foundation the school will help pupils develop an understanding of the Christian faith.
