Background:
Catcott School is situated in 'one of the older and picturesque villages of the Polden Hills' with views across the Mendips. The original Victorian building was developed in the 1970s and now houses seven classes on a 'spaceous' site. Though situated in Catcott, pupils are also drawn from surrounding villages and further. The school has 'expanses of fields and playgrounds', a hall, a library, an ICT area and other small rooms for music and Special Educational Needs. The children have developed their own ideas for the use of their play areas and environment and are currently painting a 'sports wall' and planting a willow maze. The school prides itself on its high academic standards as well as its children's motivation and 'positive caring attitude'. They are encouraged to take responsibility in daily activities and in fundraising ventures. Music is important in the school with a choir, recorders and band. Sports activities are organised in clubs and by the After School Care Club which provides safe and fun activities for two hours after school ends. 'At the centre of the school are the children and we work to celebrate their successes, and to share these with their family'.
