Background:
The school is standing in an 'idyllic' spot at the foot of Quantock hills, surrounded by fields, the school draws in children from both surrounding villages and the local town. It founded as the first National School in the country in 1810, the current Grade II listed stone building dates from 1840 and is enhanced by three temporary classrooms, a library and a new hall and classroom built in 1999. Music is a 'strong tradition' and lunch-time clubs include recorder ensembles. Football and Latin are also available as extra-curricular subjects and SCCC provides cricket coaching in the summer. The 'happy and popular' school is proud of its tradition of service to the community and of its fund-raising for charity.
