Background:

Flax Bourton is a Church of England school with close links with the village church and community. The school has a long and interesting history. It was opened in the original building on 27th September 1859 as an all age group school catering for children aged between four to 11. In 1996 the school completed the move to its present large site where, although still close to the central of the village, it is bounded on three sides by open fields. The school hall, built in 1996, is used for acts of worship, music and drama, indoor physical education, lunches and school performances. During 2004 this building has been substantially extended to provide new classrooms for the junior children, a computer suite, a library area, a special needs room and office accommodation. An adjacent building houses the infant classrooms and a small group area. The school's spacious, secure grounds incorporate a playground, a sports field, fixed play equipment and a conservation area. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. These activities include football, netball, computer, science, tag rugby and gardening. Educational visits are also arranged to enhance the curriculum. The school aims to provide a safe, stimulating and caring environment for learning and play.
