Background:

Worle School opened in 1940 in buildings on Spring Hill moved to its present site in 1971 when education in Weston-super-Mare was reorganised along comprehensive lines. It was the first comprehensive school to be purpose-built by Somerset county council. The school was also one of the first schools in the former county of Avon achieve status as an Investor in People. It provides a broad and balanced range of subjects that ensure progression and continuity through the school whilst at the same time meeting the specific needs of individual learners. During Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) Worle students study: English, mathematics, science, technology, history, geography, modern foreign language, physical education, citizenship, creative arts, religious education and information and communication technology. The school has achieved the national Artsmark Award in 2002, Sportsmark Award. The school works very closely with outside agencies such as Educational Psychology, Educational Welfare, Inclusion Support Service, Connexions and Social Services. The school aims to provide a high quality environment for learning.
