Background:
Fairfields Middle School opened in purpose-built buildings in 1976. Mobile classrooms have since been added to accommodate rising numbers of pupils. Facilities include a library, learning resources area with audio-visual materials and 24 computers, a hall, changing rooms and showers and there are specialist rooms for mathematics, foreign languages, music and science. The grounds have the space and equipment necessary for playing netball, football, tennis, rugby, cricket, hockey and athletics. The school's 'very strong' sporting programme has resulted in pupils representing the district and county in boys' and girls' hockey, football, rugby and cricket, while the school's under-11 hockey team has represented the South West in the national tournament. Children are encouraged to foster links with local older citizens and to raise funds for Save the Children.
