Background:
Oldfield School founded in 1892 to serve the city of Bath. It moved from its city centre site in 1959 to a spacious site on the western edge of Bath on a ridge overlooking the Avon Valley, where it is surrounded by open country. A large Victorian house serves as a tutorial and teaching base for the sixth form. The main science block was completed in 1979 and a new science block opened in 1993. Accommodation for technology has been upgraded. A new Humanities block was opened in 2003. It gained sports college status in 1997 and is one of only seventy schools invited to take a second specialism in arts in 2004. a wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered in the school are football, netball, rugby, tennis and choir. The school aims to provide a tradition with high standards in terms of uniform, teaching quality and behaviour.
