Background:
A school with 'traditional roots and a modern outlook', Burrington is located in the Mendip Hills near the Somerset border.' The main school building was built in 1854, but has been extended since and the buildings, now in 'excellent order', have featured more than once in television dramas and documentaries. The school now includes four classrooms, a library/computer room, offices, a staffroom, resources room, two playgrounds and a playing field, and uses the local environment for study. In addition to core subjects, music and sport are 'particular strengths' of the school, which has a school orchestra, a choir and provides a wide range of sports including skiing. The school's teams include netball, football, dance and a 'strong' swimming team. Other initiatives include residential field studies, a wide range of after school clubs and links with other countries such as Uganda and Kenya and 'high profile' charity support. The school has 'high standards and expectations'.
