Background:

West Pennard was founded as a church school in 1856 and remains in characteristic Victorian buildings in a picturesque part of rural Somerset. The school'serves three local villages and is currently over-subscribed. Grounds are extensive and include a very good playing field, a large playground area, attractive garden areas, an environmental studies area and a new adventure play area. Inside there is a hall, a resource room and a library in addition to classrooms. ICT provision is strong with interactive whiteboards in all classes and a recently upgraded ICT suite. The school provides wide range of extra-curricular activities include recorder, football, netball, cycling proficiency, art, athletics and computer club. The school also manages a large choir and orchestra and has individual music lessons. It has an exceptionally strong and supportive parent body which raises significant funds for the school each year. There is a strong Christian foundation to the school and close links are maintained with the community and local clergy who regularly work with the school. It is a forward looking school, excited by progress and collectively enjoys providing a rich education for the children. The success of the school is reflected by its common goals shared by staff, pupils and parents. The school believes its children should be inspired by a rich curriculum, which embraces all nature of learners in a supportive and uplifting environment.
