Background:

Founded in 1879, the school consists of 'a collection of old red sandstone buildings' in the town-centre adjacent to the railway. Despite a 'lack of playing field' Eastover competes 'successfully' in all sports. In 1999 the pupils won all three major county cricket competitions and the netball and athletics teams are 'equally successful'. In addition, rugby, hockey, table tennis, basketball, mathematics, table tennis and chess clubs are available after school. Community links are 'close' and harvest gifts are donated to the local senior citizens, who are also invited to the senior citizens' Christmas party run by Year 6 pupils. Other charity work involves sponsoring a young girl in Uganda, and raising money for 'a variety' of charities.
