Background:

North Newton Community Primary School is a rural primary school for pupils aged between 4-11. It is the aim of the staff to ensure that the school is a happy and successful one. The school follows the national curriculum, including cross-curricular issues such as multi-cultural education. 'The manner in which the curriculum is delivered reflects the needs of each individual child, so the organisation of teaching groups is flexible.' Children have the opportunity to swim each week at St James' Street Pool in Taunton, and play rounders and learn to maypole dance during the summer. The school netball team won the Small Schools Bridgwater Area League in 2001, and the football team also competes against local schools. A variety of sports take place after school and at lunch times throughout the year including recorders, netball, football, rounders, cricket and table tennis. The children regularly take part in netball, football, rounders and athletics competitions against other schools. Trained music teachers come to the school and teach either individually or in pairs. Children may learn a variety of instruments, including the piano, flute, keyboard, clarinet and guitar. All the children go to the St James' street pool in Taunton regularly throughout the year. The school aims to ensure that the school is a happy and successful one.
