Background:
Situated in the historic market town of Yeovil, Preston School is located close to the Somerset-Dorset border. The 'caring and friendly' school was founded in 1961 as a comprehensive, since when extensions have included a drama studio, built in 1978. There are plans to develop the buildings further as numbers of pupils continue to increase. The school has been awarded the Sportsmark and boasts 'extensive' grounds which comprise tennis courts, rugby and football pitches and a separate cricket pitch. These and other sporting facilities are made available to the community outside school hours. Sports teams compete at county, area and national level, and there are links with local rugby, netball and football teams. There are also 'substantial and valued' links with the community and the school is a member of the European Schools Association. It strives to develop a 'close partnership' with parents. The school'sees itself as 'progressive within a traditional framework of high standards'.
