Background:
Opened in 1940 with a mixture of local children and wartime evacuees from Southampton and East London, the school became comprehensive in 1979 before becoming Somerset's first community school in 1986. It was adapted for physically disabled pupils in 1987. The school is situated on a hill above the small market town of Castle Cary, with views across the Polden Hills and surrounded by extensive playing fields. The school's facilities were recently modernised with a grant from the foundation for sports and arts. The school is a supporting, high achieving community committed to serving the needs of all students.
