Background:
This over-subscribed village school moved from its original Victorian building to new purpose built accommodation in 1991. The caring school is driven by a positive ethos, and aims to respect the needs of each individual. The good quality education offered within the curriculum is complemented by various activities. Amongst the sports on offer, swimming is most keenly encouraged with many children achieving bronze, silver and gold awards. The school also offers additional out-of-hours clubs. Love of music is encouraged at all stages, with junior pupils often taking up the recorder and some older children learning the flute or clarinet through the Somerset Music Scene. The local education authority and governors welcome local community visitors and those interested in making use of the school's facilities. The school aims to be a learning centre in the community, where every child will enjoy coming to school and will acquire a broad array of knowledge, skills and attitudes, including the basic skills, and where the children can engage in after-school programmes for their personal improvement and enjoyment.
